Playwright & UI Automation

Locate elements by their user-facing meaning with getByRole, getByLabel, and getByText, and add a stable getByTestId where needed, instead of tying selectors to generated IDs or CSS, because meaning is stable while implementation details churn, which cuts flakiness and maintenance.

getByRole locates by accessible role and name and is the most reliable and accessibility-aligned, getByText locates by visible text when the words are the real identifier, and the generic locator with CSS or XPath is the low-level, least readable fallback for when no semantic locator fits.

Playwright parallelizes with isolated worker processes sharding tests, and you pick the worker count by balancing test independence, shared state contention, environment and database capacity, machine resources, and reusable auth, because once the environment is the bottleneck more workers only add contention, flakiness, and time.

Use setInputFiles on a file input for single, multiple, or in-memory files, or capture the filechooser event and call setFiles for custom controls, then verify both the UI signal and the server-side result to confirm the correct file actually uploaded.

A pass-locally-fail-in-CI suite is an environmental difference, so compare versions, env vars, OS, data, network, auth, time zone, paths, and resources and read the CI traces, videos, and screenshots, and fix the real difference rather than randomly editing the test, which only hides the cause.

Choose Playwright for its auto-waiting, true tri-engine cross-browser support, built-in parallel workers, network mocking, isolated contexts, and tracing with video and screenshots that speed debugging, not because it is newer, which is not a technical reason at all.

The Page Object Model puts a page's locators and action methods in one class so tests express intent and a changed locator is fixed once, and you keep it healthy by extracting component objects, fixtures, and helpers to prevent bloated, duplicated page classes.
