Stored Procedures, Views & Triggers

String functions clean, format, and inspect text, but check the dialect because Oracle's SUBSTR and MySQL's CONCAT differ from PostgreSQL's || operator.

Take two inputs, SELECT ... INTO a local variable from a source table, use it to UPDATE a target table inside a transaction with error handling, and return a success status.

A stored procedure is named, precompiled SQL logic living in the database, called with IN/OUT/INOUT parameters, giving performance, security, reuse, and encapsulation near the data.

A trigger is database code that fires automatically on INSERT/UPDATE/DELETE: BEFORE to validate or modify, AFTER to react or audit, INSTEAD OF to redirect (usually on views).

A plain view recomputes live every access (fresh but slower); a materialized view stores a snapshot (fast but can be stale and needs refreshing).

A view is a stored query acting as a virtual table that simplifies, reuses, secures, and abstracts access to the underlying data without duplicating it.
